How SportGang handles your information. Plain language, only what's actually true of the app today.

01Introduction
SportGang ("we", "us", "our") is a mobile app that helps adults find sports partners, chat one-to-one with people they match with, and coordinate basic sports sessions.
This policy explains what information the app and our backend handle, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the SportGang mobile app and the official SportGang website.
02Information we collect
We collect only what the app needs to do its job. The categories below mirror what the app currently does today.
Account information
Email address — used to register, sign in, and contact you about safety actions tied to your account. If you sign in with Apple, we accept Apple's relay address the same way.
Account / session identifiers — server-issued user ID and session token. These are how the app knows you're you.
Profile content (you provide)
Display name and bio.
Profile photos you choose to upload.
Sport, level, and suburb entered during onboarding. These power the matching feed.
Activity content
Chat messages sent in 1:1 conversations with players you've matched with.
Reports you submit about another user (reason and any optional context you add).
Blocks you create against another user.
Diagnostics (optional)
Crash and performance diagnostics may be collected if a build ships with crash reporting enabled. Where shipped, this is high-level error context, not the contents of your messages or profile. If a build ships without crash reporting configured, this category is not collected.
The v1 app does not collect precise device location, contacts, microphone, camera (beyond the photo picker you explicitly use to upload a photo), or device advertising identifiers.
03How we use information
We use the information above only for the following purposes:
Account login — verify your credentials, keep you signed in across sessions.
Profile presentation — show your display name, photos, and sport rows to other authenticated users you can match with.
Matching — pair you with players who selected the same sport and city.
1:1 chat delivery — route messages between two matched users.
Safety and abuse moderation — review reports filed through the app's report flow.
Account deletion — process and confirm requests to delete your account.
Crash diagnostics — improve app stability, where shipped.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
04Profile and sports matching
Matching is suburb-level — you select the suburb you usually train in during onboarding, and we use that text to filter who you see and who sees you. We do not look up your real-time location to match you. We do not show your profile to people outside the app.
Your profile is shown only to other authenticated SportGang users who picked at least one sport in common with you. If you delete your account, your profile is removed from the matching feed.
05Chat and messages
Chat is one-to-one. You can only chat with players you've matched with. Messages are visible to the two participants and to our moderation team if a report is filed against the conversation.
Messages are kept only for as long as we need them to operate the chat feature and to investigate reports. When both participants delete their accounts, messages are removed in line with our retention policy described in section 9.
06Reports, blocks, and safety
You can report or block any user from inside the chat overflow menu.
Reports
A report records: your user ID, the reported user's ID, the reason you selected, any optional context you added, and a timestamp. We use reports to review the reported user's account and decide whether to take moderation action. Reports are not shown to the reported user.
We may retain reports beyond an account's deletion when needed for moderation review or platform-policy purposes.
Blocks
Blocking another user prevents future matching, messaging, or visibility between the two of you. Blocks persist after either party deletes their account, so a blocked user cannot create a new account and re-match the person who blocked them.
07Location, suburb, and venue information
The v1 app does not request foreground or background location permissions. We do not use your device GPS.
The only "location" data we hold is the suburb you type during onboarding (or update later from the Edit profile screen). You may also enter or select a venue or court name when planning a session with a matched player; that text is shared between the two of you.
If a future build of the app introduces precise location features, this section and our App Privacy Label will be updated before that build is released.
08Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete my account inside the app. Deletion is permanent and is preceded by a clear confirmation step.
When you delete your account:
Your local session is cleared on the device.
Your account record is removed from our backend.
Your profile is removed from the matching feed.
Your messages, reports, and blocks may be retained as described in sections 6 and 9.
09Data retention
We keep each category of information only for as long as the app needs it for the purposes described in section 3. As a general rule:
Profile fields and photos are retained until you delete your account.
Chat messages are retained while the conversation is active and removed in line with our retention policy after both participants delete their accounts.
Reports are retained as long as needed for moderation review and platform-policy purposes.
Blocks are retained so that a previously blocked user cannot recontact you through a new account.
Server access logs are retained for a limited operational window for security and debugging.
Crash diagnostics, where shipped, are retained per the underlying provider's default retention.
You can ask us how long a specific category of your information is being retained by contacting us through the Support page.
10Data security
We protect your information with standard transport encryption (HTTPS/TLS) between the app and our servers and the access controls our hosting provider supports. No system is perfectly secure, and we make no representation that our practices exceed industry-typical measures. If we learn of a security incident affecting your account, we will follow the disclosure obligations required of us under applicable law.
11International users
SportGang is built with a Sydney-first focus. If you use the app from outside the country we operate from, your information will be processed there. By using SportGang, you consent to that transfer to the extent permitted by your local law.
Australia. If you are an Australian resident and have a privacy complaint, you can contact us through the Support page. You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you believe we have not handled your information appropriately.
